Our Environmental Policy
We actively minimise our impact on the environment
We believe it is important for everyone to aim to minimise their impact on the planet, notwithstanding global warming it is instinctively the right thing to do. We have been considering the environment since 2000, well before the environment became a bandwagon! We have an Environmental Policy on which staff are trained and which is regularly reviewed at Board level. The highlights of it are set out here.
We aim to minimise waste produced by our activities
IT is a relatively low waste industry and the services we provide do not include any physical deliverables, thus we concentrate on reuse and safe disposal of our hardware and on minimising production of general office waste.
We aim to recycle waste materials accepted by local recycling facilities
We provide recycling facilities for all our staff and encourage their use. We also compost all permitted waste.
We aim to reduce our energy consumption and to reduce emissions of pollution from our activities
We aim to minimise energy use in our offices by using energy efficient products and by switching off devices when not in use. We aim to reduce the impact on the environment caused by our business travel by ensuring that only essential journeys are undertaken. As many business trips as possible are completed by train rather than car. If a car journey is essential then if possible car sharing is used to avoid excessive emissions. We offer monetary incentives to encourage car sharing in the form of an increased fuel allowance. We also aim to plan business journeys so that distances travelled are minimised. We encourage cycling to work and provide free shower facilities for staff choosing to do so. We do not trade overseas or beyond 2 hours travel from any of our offices. If we recruit people living more than 25 miles from one of our offices we require them to relocate to within 25 miles within 6 months of completing their probationary period. We do not provide company cars to any staff.
We aim to be carbon neutral
Each year instead of sending Christmas gifts to our clients we donate to the Woodland Trust so that they look after an acre of woodland in perpetuity in our name. We annually calculate our carbon emissions arising from all our activities including business travel, and typically they are offset fives times over by the trees on the land we acquire each year. This has a cumulative effect because our emissions do not change significantly year on year so helping offset our staff and clients' emissions.
We encourage others to follow our lead
We encourage our consultants, sub-contractors and suppliers to report to us on their environmental performance.
